By Martin Donnelly | 5/19/17 10:34 AM | Community - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

A week has passed since the Engage conference at the Elisabeth Center in Antwerp. I had a few days’ vacation right afterwards which gave me time to reflect on what was another hugely successful event organized by IBM champion and community hero Theo Heselmans.

Do You Have An Opinion on the Domino Application Platform Direction? Read This.

By Bill Malchisky | 5/18/17 10:57 AM | Business - Social Business | Added by Oliver Busse

As Barry Rosen mentioned during our Engage session last week, ICS Offering Management is seeking feedback around the Domino application platform. This opportunity is significant enough that I felt it appropriate to author a separate post.

Making "X-Forwarded-For" log feature IBM Domino FP8 actually work

By Jesper Kiær | 5/17/17 3:17 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

In March I wrote about the new log feature in IBM Domino in connection with using a Reverse Proxy. http://nevermind.dk/nevermind/blog.nsf/subject/new-logging-feature-in-ibm-domino-fp8-when-using-reverse-proxy---x-forwarded-for The issue is that you will always get the IP address of the Reverse Proxy in you HTTP log files and not the actual IP of the user.

Engaged at Engage 2017 in Antwerpen, Belgium!

By Robert Ibsen Voith | 5/12/17 3:23 PM | Community - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

Over the years I have attended many Lotuspheres and the latter IBM Connects. What I really enjoyed in the first Lotuspheres, were the intense depth of some of the sessions. Remember C API sessions with difficulty settings? Tree dots meant the real deal! Well, those days are over and generally Lotusphere has become more and more a marketing event. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not the same as “back then”

Convenience at a cost: comparing Domino Java APIs performance (standard, ODA, JNA)

By Mark Leusink | 5/12/17 9:56 AM | App Dev - XPages | Added by Oliver Busse

I’m into performance at the moment, trying to solve some nasty issues in one of the applications I work on. While researching the topic I came across Karsten Lehmann’s Domino JNA project that allows you to use some low-level C-API methods using Java. It contains functions that are very useful in my scenario, but I also wondered how the library performed. So I wrote some basic tests, comparing JNA with the ‘standard’ (or ‘legacy’) Domino API and, while I was at it, the org.openntf.domino (ODA) API.

Engage User Group Conference Summary

By IBM developerWorks | 5/12/17 9:39 AM | Business - Social Business | Added by Oliver Busse

Another amazing Engage User Group event has come and gone. I'm energized by the enthusiasm that Lifetime IBM Champion Theo Heselmans generates with this event. What makes this event so special? I asked numerous people in the community why they come to Engage each year, both sponsors and attendees. It's a combination of several things.

Over the last few days I’ve been attending Engage. As ever, it was an excellent conference, with a great attendance from across Europe. (If you’ve not attended a user group recently and will not this year, put it on your list for next year, May 2018.) As ever, Theo is a brilliant organiser and the social events were great. As ever, the speakers were top quality.

Antwerp – Engage, 1st Day: What an important announcement, there will be a free for non production use licence of the latest and greatest IBM Domino Server. No time bomb and the only limitation is the usage. The purpose of this licence is very simple: Developers of all kind and nature are getting access to the huge ecosystem of IBM Notes/Domino/XPages Application Development.

By Paul Withers | 5/9/17 9:27 AM | App Dev - XPages | Added by Oliver Busse

Today at Engage Ed Brill announced that in Q3 there will be a Domino server licensing entitlement for developers. Yes, you read that correct. There are still some logistics to be finalised (e.g. access to feature packs to keep up to date), but this is great news.

I consider myself fortunate that my career has coincided with the rise of the computer as a business tool.
